Helper Testimonial: Meet Kennedy

Discover how Kennedy, a psychology student at Middle Tennessee State University, found flexible, meaningful work through Manana. Learn how caregiving empowers students, restores independence for families, and makes a real difference in the community.

For Kennedy, a psychology major at Middle Tennessee State University, caregiving started as a flexible part-time job- a way to earn some extra cash on the side. She soon discovered that Manana gave her a chance to make a real difference in her community, making the work all the more fulfilling.

“I got into caregiving in 2023,” Kennedy explains. “I needed some extra hours. It’s very flexible. You can go in weekly and change your availability. So, if you have a busy school week coming up and you know you can’t commit to these hours, you can go in and change it, or add more hours. That’s a really good benefit.”

As a student, Kennedy needed work that adapted to her life, not the other way around. With Manana, she has the freedom to adjust her schedule based on exams, projects, or free time. That flexibility gives her peace of mind while staying on track academically. Beyond the convenience, Kennedy quickly discovered that being a helper was deeply rewarding.

“What I enjoy about being a Manana helper is you kind of get to see the fruits of your labor,” she says. “When I take someone to the grocery store, I’m helping them fill up their fridge for a week or two, and they don’t have to worry about being hungry.”

What stands out most for Kennedy is how even small acts of service can restore independence and dignity for others. From grocery runs to doctor’s visits, Kennedy has become a bridge for people who need just a little extra support.

“It turned out to be a really enjoyable experience, helping people go to the grocery store, go to the doctor, just their basic needs, and helping them get their independence back. It’s a very rewarding experience.”

Kennedy’s journey is a reminder that caregiving isn’t just a job, it’s an opportunity to connect, uplift, and empower. For students, working professionals, or anyone looking for flexible and meaningful work, Manana makes it possible to fit helping into everyday life.
